INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the UKTN privacy notice. This document explains how Tech City News Limited (referred to as 'UKTN', 'we', 'us', or 'our') collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you visit our website. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to ensuring that your information is handled in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. This notice applies to all visitors, subscribers, and users of our online services.

We have structured this policy in a layered format so you can easily navigate to the sections that matter most to you. Key areas include: important information about who we are, the types of data we collect, how we gather and use that data, disclosures to third parties, international transfers, data security, retention periods, and your legal rights. If you have any questions, please contact our Data Protection Officer (DPO) using the details provided below.

1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND WHO WE ARE

Purpose of this privacy notice

This privacy notice aims to give you full transparency on how UKTN processes your personal data when you interact with our website. This includes any data you provide when signing up for our newsletter, purchasing a product or service, entering a competition, or giving feedback. It is important that you read this notice alongside any other specific privacy notices we may provide on particular occasions (for example, when you apply for a job or attend an event). This notice supplements those and does not override them.

Controller

UKTN is the data controller responsible for your personal data. We have appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to oversee compliance with this notice. Our DPO is Marco Callegari, and you can reach them via email at mydata@wearemvi.com, by post at 124 City Road, London, England, EC1V 2NX, or by phone at 0208 150 8286. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection supervisory authority, at www.ico.org.uk. We encourage you to contact us first so we can address your concerns.

Changes to the privacy notice and your duty to inform us of changes

This version was last updated on 4 February 2024. We may update this notice from time to time, and we will notify you of any material changes. It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current. Please keep us informed if your personal information changes during your relationship with us.

Third-party links

Our website may contain links to third-party websites, plug-ins, and applications. Clicking on those links may allow third parties to collect or share data about you. We do not control these third-party sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. When you leave our website, we encourage you to read the privacy notice of every website you visit.

Cookies

You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies, or to alert you when websites set or access cookies. If you disable or refuse cookies, some parts of our website may become inaccessible or not function properly. More information about our cookie use is available in our dedicated cookie policy.

Change of purpose

We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason compatible with the original purpose. If you wish to understand how new processing is compatible, please contact us. If we need to use your personal data for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you and explain the legal basis. We may process your personal data without your knowledge or consent where required or permitted by law.

5. DISCLOSURES OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We may share your personal data with the parties set out below for the purposes described in Section 4. These include internal third parties (other companies within our group, acting as joint controllers or processors, based in the UK or EU providing IT and system administration services), external third parties (service providers acting as processors, professional advisers such as lawyers, bankers, and auditors, and regulators such as HM Revenue & Customs), and third parties to whom we may sell, transfer, or merge parts of our business or assets. We require all third parties to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with the law. They are not allowed to use your data for their own purposes and must process it only for specified purposes under our instructions.

6. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

We do not transfer your personal data outside the European Economic Area (EEA). If we ever need to do so, we will ensure that the country has an adequate level of protection as determined by the European Commission, or we will use specific contracts approved by the European Commission. Where we use providers based in the US, we will transfer data only if they are part of the Privacy Shield framework that provides similar protection to personal data shared between Europe and the US. Please contact us if you want further information on the specific mechanism used.

7. DATA SECURITY

We have implemented appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered, or disclosed. We limit access to your personal data to employees, agents, contractors, and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your data on our instructions and are subject to a duty of confidentiality. We have procedures in place to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator if we are legally required to do so.

8. DATA RETENTION

By law, we must keep basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Financial, and Transaction Data) for six years after they cease being customers for tax purposes. In some circumstances, you can ask us to delete your data (see 'Request erasure' below). We may also anonymize your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes, and we may use this information indefinitely without further notice.

9. YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS

Under data protection law, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Request access: You can obtain a copy of your personal data and check that we are lawfully processing it.
  • Request correction: You can have any incomplete or inaccurate data corrected.
  • Request erasure: You can ask us to delete or remove personal data where there is no good reason for continuing to process it. Note that we may not always be able to comply for specific legal reasons.
  • Object to processing: You can object where we rely on legitimate interests, or for direct marketing purposes.
  • Request restriction of processing: You can ask us to suspend processing in certain scenarios, such as when accuracy is contested or processing is unlawful but you do not want erasure.
  • Request transfer: You can request that your personal data be transferred to you or a third party in a structured, machine-readable format. This applies only to automated information you initially consented to or that we used to perform a contract.
  • Withdraw consent: You can withdraw consent at any time where we are relying on it to process your data. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

If you wish to exercise any of these rights, please contact us. You will not have to pay a fee unless your request is unfounded, repetitive, or excessive. We may need to ask for specific information to confirm your identity to ensure your rights are not exercised by someone unauthorized. We try to respond to all legitimate requests within one month, but it may take longer if the request is complex or you have made multiple requests. In such cases, we will notify you and keep you updated.
